A colorful condo makeover in Walnut Creek, California

This Walnut Creek condo makeover started from scratch. The client had inherited her mother’s condo and was ready to create a space that felt like her own.

During our early design conversations, she fell in love with a bold, colorful rug, and it became the inspiration for the design. From there, we built a vibrant palette and a joyful, modern look that reflected her personality.

With new hardwood flooring, fresh paint, updated window treatments, and all new furnishings, the once-dated space was transformed into a bright, modern, and welcoming home.

Before: Creating a Blank Slate

When I first met this client, the condo was filled with her mother’s belongings and felt visually dated.

We decided the first step was a full reset. She sorted through what to keep, donate, and let go of, clearing the space and giving us a true blank slate to design from.

That process made room for a new beginning and a home that felt like her.

The Design Process

A big part of our process was uncovering her style and identifying the colors that sparked joy for her.

When I showed her a bold, colorful rug, she immediately lit up. That moment told us everything. We built the entire palette from that piece, layering in playful color, a fun wallpaper, and a vibrant turquoise/teal accent wall that tied the living and dining areas together.

Once we had a clear design direction, we visited showrooms together to explore furniture and finishes. She consistently gravitated toward modern shapes and color-forward pieces, which inspired the project name: Pop Modern.
